Yoga is changing shape!

Has yoga changed shape for you too since the P?

Everywhere I look I see a different landscape when it comes to looking at all things yogic. Recently I read an email from a top online provider saying ‘did we know that older adults with hip fractures are 3-4 times more likely to die within one-year than the general population’. This was in conjunction with trying to sell an osteoporosis course. I was appalled! My close friend has had a hip fracture, so has my mother, so has a great teacher of mine and the list goes on. I wrote to object and needless to say, did not receive the courtesy of a reply. Perhaps someone more well known than me might have.

Marketing is getting stronger to gain attention and utter falsehoods are made about the power of yoga. Why? I think because of the declining market.

If you’re worried about smaller class numbers, don’t be. Having meaningful attendance and genuine engagement is far more powerful than people who don’t want to be there, who are either box ticking ‘done my yoga’, used my monthly class pass at the gym or just filling in time……. (lucky peeps!)

My neighbour who is a yoga teacher at a local gym told me that some students still come in to class with their laptops open! I’ve never heard of this before. Phones are bad enough. So where have all the real yogis gone? I suspect they are at the end of their beds in the mornings doing a made up practice like me. Yes I do consider myself a real yogi after 30 years of deliberation and on/off imposter syndrome. I do believe I am a yogi because I’m still at it in one form or another, despite my lapses in the physical practice, I still on reflection, unknowingly think with yogic principles and my actions I think, are aligned.

On that note, I am about to change platforms to a more affordable platform. You don’t need to do anything but you could unsubscribe me now if you’ve given up on yoga, or me or for any other reason 😊. It might save me from having to unsubscribe those who aren’t interested in receiving emails. I won’t be offended!

In my upcoming offerings this Autumn I am hoping to engage with teachers who want to expand their offerings with workshops, courses and trainings by offering coaching on how to write curriculums, structure your courses and write manuals. If you’re interested feel free to drop me a line in the meantime to put you on the list.

Namaste 🙏🏽 Sarah
